NTDS and TCDS controller types
NTDS and TCDS series devices use three controller types: NTP, TC (time code), and dual. LUX is part of the NTDS family. Identify the installed controller before choosing a time input or following network configuration instructions.
| Controller | Connections and options |
|---|---|
| NTP | RJ45 Ethernet, USB and reset button. Includes NTP Client and network options; no Time Code Reader option. |
| TC (time code) | BNC and 3-pin time-code terminal input, USB and reset button. Includes Time Code Reader; no Ethernet interface, NTP Client options or network options. |
| Dual | Combines the NTP and TC controller connections. Includes NTP Client, network options and Time Code Reader. |
Missing NTP or network options on a TC controller are expected. A TC-only unit cannot be discovered over Ethernet. The controller is a physical hardware configuration; software settings do not add the other controller’s interfaces.
Balanced and unbalanced time-code wiring
- UNBAL: use the BNC connector for unbalanced time-code input.
- BAL: use the 3-pin terminal connector for balanced time-code input, connecting the source to the terminals labeled negative, ground and positive.
Follow the terminal markings on the installed controller. The signal names do not establish a numbered pinout or viewing orientation. Verify the source format and level against the receiver requirements.
LUX input selection and time-code priority
Input Control reflects the installed controller: NTP controllers provide NTP Client options, TC controllers provide Time Code Reader options, and dual controllers provide both. Network options are present on NTP and dual controllers only. The LUX Time Code Reader menu follows the same general reader configuration used by TCDS clocks.
When time code is available on a dual-capable LUX, it is prioritized over NTP. If the displayed time follows an unexpected source, check the time-code input and reference status as well as the NTP configuration. Review the installed firmware’s available controls before assuming that priority can be changed.
Adding time-code capability after purchase
A LUX supplied without time-code capability can be converted, normally by returning it to Masterclock. The controller contains the primary CPU and flash memory. Changing controller type requires reprogramming, appropriate feature provisioning, a new serial number, a new MAC address where applicable, and updated product identification and labeling.
Contact Masterclock with the model, serial number and required inputs to arrange the conversion and return procedure.
LUX26 rack mounting
LUX26 and NTDS26 use the same housing and rack-ear hardware. Provide the model and serial number when requesting replacement mounting parts so the correct hardware can be supplied.
